Thoughts: Honestly after reading Reason to Breathe and being on an emotional roller coaster throughout the whole is not my idea of a good time. With the appearance of Jonathan I had a bad feeling. So much so that I ended up on Goodreads to read the reviews for Barely Breathing hoping to come across a spoiler review that would put me at ease.

I am not at ease. I don’t know if I can read this book or continue this series. There is too much drama and uncertainty. Emma’s life is too messed up and know I won’t be getting an HEA in this book is enough to make me skip it all together, who wants to read the gory details? Not me that’s for sure.

Rachel (Emma’s mother) is a mess and not a mother at all. I was so pissed when Emma decided to go live with her. WHY?! You don’t know her, you don’t owe her anything, you survived hell and finally have a good thing going and now you want to mess it up by moving in with an alcoholic excuse for a mother? I can’t help but blame Emma for whatever is going to happen in this book.

“It was anger and pain that drew us together. That’s our bond. Not love.” <— FINALLY! I was about to punch her in the face if she didn’t realize what a monster he is.

So I just skipped to the end cus I really couldn’t deal with the middle parts. I don’t think I missed much honestly and I feel so much better. I didn’t need to know the details about Emma and Jonathan’s twisted relationship, I didn’t need to know about Sara and Jared, or whatever twisted crap Rachel was going through. I’m not even curious about Analise. Everything I wanted to know I gathered in the first few chapters and the last chapter plus the epilogue. Now I can sleep in peace, read the third installment (which better have a HEA so help me God). Whatever I missed in the middle, I’m sure I’ll get clarification in Out of Breath.

I am content with my decision and my lack/inability to finish this book.
Now I’m going to read the third book and wait for my HEA ending.

Last Line: “I don’t know if I’m staying”

That last line hurt my heart! I can’t believe Emma made Evan revert back to his old ways. I am not liking her at all I tell you. I don’t care what she’s been through, there is not enough room for sympathy when you’re being stupid. And maybe a reason why I don’t sympathize with her is because it was poorly written leaving me unable to understand why Emma did the things she did. I just didn’t understand and my lack of understanding makes me unsympathetic.

Since I didn’t finish the whole book I can’t give an exact rating but from what I’ve read and what I knowingly did not read I will give this

3.5 STARS
