Thoughts: *I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I skim the other reviews and see that this book received 3 or 4 stars and I’m sitting here thinking what did I miss. What makes this book so great that many reviewers gave it 3 to 4 stars. It wasn’t terrible or anything but I didn’t see a point.
First off, while the idea of online dating is funny and the author did a good job bringing the humor and reality of it all to light really well, I felt that there were too many instances where there was an overabundance of unnecessary information. Its like she went off on little tangents and had to bring herself back.
Maggie, oh man, from the moment she “opened” her mouth, I disliked her. Yes, we all criticize and judge our “dates” in our heads, and yes owning your sexuality by doing whatever the F*ck you want is great. Power to ya girl! But, her mentality rubbed me the wrong way. I don’t even know if I can fully explain it, it was like a mixture of cockiness with a blend of I’m a genius and beautiful confidence that was not appealing. It felt like Maggie was this awesome woman who could cure cancer and shit. I couldn’t tell what her “staple” personality was supposed to be, she was too diverse, too good at potentially everything.
Daisy, being too beautiful to get a date must be tough. -__- and she’s shy?! WTF! While all this is certainly possible, the character portrayal wasn’t good at pulling sympathy out of me.
Ha. I can’t say I was surprised when Maggie ended up with that one guy. The minute he came into the picture I called it, which is kinda sad. And I’m not even sure, actually I’m pretty sure I don’t like their relationship. I don’t like Daisy’s either.
This book was unbearably long, I kept looking to see how far along I was and every time it seemed I was getting further away from the ending than closer. It’s the tangents I’m telling you!
Overall, I didn’t enjoy it. I didn’t like the characters, the plot, the point, the anything really. If Maggie was more relatable I guess I could have been persuaded to give it 3 stars but I didn’t like her.
