A weekly meme hosted by Samanneelizabeth formerly hosted by MizB all about, what we are, Currently Reading, Just Finished Reading and Reading Next
THIS IS OUR first WWW Wednesday since the blog launch. That being said we are very excited to share with you what we have been reading while on hiatus. And hear what you have been reading.

I haven’t finished a book in a really long time, with the blog launch, moving and the wringer that the summer semester put me through I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the last book I’ve finished.

I’ve been playing the procrastination game since school started so I’ve been reading quite a bit. I’m mostly reading Korean, Chinese, and Japanese BL (boys love or yaoi as some call it) comics because I needed a break from some of my heavier readings from earlier in the summer. Note: these BL comics are NSFW.
Love is an Illusion that is an omegaverse BL manhwa. For those who don’t know omegaverse is a subgenre of erotic fiction wherein humans are categorized hierarchal as Alpha’s (dominant), Beta (human), and Omega’s (submissives who are able to conceive regardless of gender).

It’s an interesting universe and one I am curious about, mainly because each author sometimes puts their own spin on things.

I also recently finished reading another manhwa named BJ Alex by Mingwa. This one was a BL manhwa centred around a BJ—what is known in Korea as a broadcasting jockey (someone who live streams games, music, talk sessions and sometimes sexual content, I’ll let you guess which one Alex is.

Because the semester has only just started I really only have the one reading so far a play for my Contemporary Canadian writers class The Unnatural and Accidental Women by Marie Clements. I’m not very far so I can’t really give my impressions, but fingers crossed that it’s good.
And, ironically I’m still reading another book by a Canadian writer Louis Riel: A Comic-Strip Biography by Chester Brown. It’s a very interesting experiment about what a biography could be. So far I’m really enjoying it, it’s really interesting to see someones’ life instead of reading the facts. This makes it more interpretive especially in terms of personal interactions and dialogue.

I’m reading White Fragility [Buy Bookshop] as my personal educational read. It’s never too late to educate yourself. And, on the lighter side, I am reading another Korean BL manhwa, Sign.
This one doesn’t have the same level of angst that usually comes with BL comics and I like it for that.
Korean Manhwa
Sort of balancing the scales with a heavy read and a light read. I’ve recently started reading comics and I forgot how much I’ve missed it since my Archie comic days.

School has started! So I am once again getting back into required readings. This semester I’m taking Arthurian Literature, Contemporary Canadian Writers and Psychoanalysis and Approaches to Literature, the amount of readings I have to do is pretty daunting but I’m just going to take it one week at a time. up next I have to read selections from Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams, Ru by Kim Thuy and selections from Bede. It’s a pretty varied selection but I’m excited to jump right in.

Since I am taking the second level of Korean language, I’ll be reading Korean Fairy Tales as a way of learning more about Korean socio-cultural history.
I’m not sure what manhwa I’ll be reading next but I’m sure it will be a spicy BL drama. To be truthful, I’m reading at least 6 comics at the moment, but only because they are ongoing soI have to tune in every week.
Also, since yesterday’s post—5 book covers that fit the content of the book and 5 that don’t I’ve decided to finish the Spiral of Bliss series, starting with book #4 Adore. I thought I had finished it, but turns out two years later there would be two more books!
It’s going to be an interesting semester for me. It’ll be filled with a lot of reading for pleasure, hopefully. But, as I’m taking no English classes and Carmen is taking a few, I get to take my breaks lost in books on my TBR list.
That’s it for this week’s weekly reading update friends! Make sure to stop by next week to see what we’re at with our TBR lists.

September 16, 2020 at 17:36Aaah, I miss my Arthurian literature classes. 😀 Good luck with all the readings for that! (Or all of them really, but I remember trying to keep up with my Arthurian lit class… and I have much empathy.)
