December 5: Ten Bookish Settings I’d Love to Visit

I’m sure I’ve done this before. But even if I have, I have an update! I recently went to Europe and I made sure to visit a few “bookish settings” it was surreal and amazing, and totally lived up, nah, surpassed my expectations.

Clan Fraser

1.  Inverness, Scotland   I visited the Inverness from the Outlander series. The town is quaint and filled with so much history. Most notably, the Culloden Battlefield which was amazing to walk and so eye-opening. Thousands of Scots died in that field in 1746 and to see it perfectly preserved, just…no words. Fun fact: the Scottish Highlanders in the series are accurately correct clansmen.

Edinburgh, Scotland Tell me you don’t see that?!

2. Hogwarts Okay, there is no one who hasn’t wanted to visit Hogwarts at least once in their life time. I did go to Warner Bros Studio in London where they filmed the movies, but the inspiration for Hogwarts from the books? That was in Edinburgh, Scotland and Edinburgh Castle from the window of the Elephant House is where I am sure J.K. became inspired with Hogwarts being nestled at the edge of a cliff.

3.  Boonsboro, Maryland  I’ve been to Maryland but not Boonsboro 😦 this is where The Inn BoonsBoro Triology takes place. In this town there is an actual Inn BoonsBoro where each room is named and decorated after famous literary characters, like Elizabeth and Darcy, Jane and Rochester, or a couple from one her books under pen name J.D. Robb, Eve and Roarke. How cool would it be to sleep in a room fashioned like some of your favorite literary loves?!
